Welcome Shadow...First Cria of the Season

Last Friday during the beautiful spell of weather we were having I was pottering over to our vegetable garden when I got a call from a very excited Paul, asking me to bring the 'maternity bag' to the bottom field, this of course heralded the arrival of the first cria of the season. Down I ran to see a tiny but perfectly formed baby alpaca sitting in the shadow of the trees. She was jet black and absolutely gorgeous.

Although she looked small, she was actually just quite petite and when she stood, which was just 15 mins after birth, we realised that she had very long legs and wasn't quite as tiny as we had first thought.
Charlotte was given the honour of naming her and chose Shadow, very apt considering where she was born and of course her colour.

As I type we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of cria number 2, but for now I would just like to say....welcome Shadow to Hushabye Farm, we are delighted to have you.
